The first picture of the Rev. Timothy Wright taken after he was critically injured in a car accident shows the famed Brooklyn pastor's resolve during a rehab session. The "Godfather of gospel" still cannot breathe, eat or walk on his own, more than a month after the horrific crash that killed his wife and grandson. Still, in the most dire period of his life, Wright, 61, wants nothing more than to get back in the pulpit, preaching to his loving congregation. "Can I go to church?" Wright asked his son Tuesday inside his hospital room at a New Jersey rehabilitation center. "He says that all the time," David Wright, 30, told the Daily News as he stroked his father's shoulder.
Wright has been incapacitated since the July 4 accident that took the life of Betty Wright and his 14-year-old grandson, D.J.
Wright, the founder of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Crown Heights, suffered a severe spinal cord injury, a broken jaw, broken ribs and multiple fractures in his legs. The Grammy Award-nominated pastor was moved to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange on Thursday, but his veterans insurance doesn't cover the $4,033-a-day treatment he needs. His family, joined by the Rev. Al Sharpton, are asking for donations to continue Wright's rehabilitation. "He was always the one to help everybody else," Sharpton, a decades-long friend of the Wrights, said during a visit yesterday. "Now, it's time for everybody to help the Godfather." Sharpton said his goal is to raise at least $100,000 by week's end, noting that Wright's care at Kessler is likely to end up costing about half a million dollars.

"The insurance that he had covered him as far is it could," Sharpton said. "Now, he must depend on the insurance of his friends and his supporters." The Wrights were returning to the city from a church conference in Detroit when a drunken driver heading the wrong way on a Pennsylvania highway hit their car head-on.
The driver, John Pick, 44, was killed in the crash.
Wright has recently regained feeling in his shoulders and is expected to be taken off of a respirator in six weeks, family friend Laurie Schneider said. Schneider said she has been stunned by Wright's strength and devotion to his church despite his heartbreaking ordeal. "He was asking to put a tent on the parking lot, so he can hold his services outside here," Schneider added. "That's all he's praying for - to give a service."

Rev. Timothy Wright was indeed transferred from Geisinger Medical Center in PA to the Kessler Institue in NJ. He does not have health insurance, other than VA coverage, and after investigating the various VA hospitals Laurie and the family decided that Rev. Wright's best chances to recover as fully as possible would be at the Kessler Institute in NJ. Rev. Timothy Wright has a severe C4 spinal cord injury. He is still on a respirator, which can be removed for an hour a day, and when off he can speak. Doctors expect that Rev. Timothy Wright will be on a respirator for 4-6 more weeks but will eventually be able to breathe on his own. Laurie explained that she was able, at her own expense, to help get Rev. Timothy Wright admitted to the Kessler Institute and have his first week of medical expenses covered, but the family indeed is asking for his church community to send support if they feel led. It is likely they will need upwards of $100,000 to cover his stay at the Kessler. The family is also planning a benefit concert to help raise money for his medical expenses and further rehabilitation. If you want to contribute to Rev. Timothy Wright's medical expenses, here is the information. Checks in the amount of $500 or more should be made out to The Kessler Institute. In the memo line please write: FOR TIMOTHY WRIGHT. Checks under $500 should be made out to Timothy Wright. ALL checks should be mailed to this address: or you can still send donations directly to the Wright Family: Wright Family Bereavement Fund 162 Lincoln Avenue Roosevelt, NY 11575 Released August 14, 2008 - Help is on the way for Rev. Timothy Wright The Rev. Timothy Wright, who is in rehabilitation at New Jersey's Kessler Institute after suffering multiple injuries during a July 4 accident that killed his wife and grandson, has one less thing to worry about during this time of recovery thanks to a fellow clergy and gospel great -Rev. John P. Kee. Pastor Kee, in a news release yesterday, said he has made a commitment to pay the mortgage on Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn, where the Wright is the pastor and founder. Kee is pastor of New Life Fellowship Center in Charlotte and currently has a CD, Nothing But Worship featuring The New Life Community Choir, "Two weeks ago, Pastor Kee announced that he will be supporting Rev. Wright and the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of Brooklyn by paying the mortgage on Rev Timothy Wright's church until he returns,'' the release said. "This is to relieve some of the financial stress on the family and the church during the healing of their father and pastor, Rev. Timothy Wright." "Rev. Wright is a great friend, preacher and singer who had so much to do with our success. My heart goes out to Timothy, his family, and to his Pastor Kee said in the release. Since the "Godfather of Gospel's" move to Kessler, the Wright family has asked for public donations to help defray the cost of the care at the rehabilitiation center, which will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. It is my prayer and confidence that God is blessing you and doing great things for you and your family! I would like to say that I am doing well, and on the move doing what I can to make the job of our Presiding Bishop easier. I pray that you will take on the spirit that God has given me, which is an urgent desire to serve leadership, thereby "sanctifying the leader in the eyes of the people..." Always remember, we are servants, chosen by God to do His divine will. I would like to congratulate Pastor Robert G. Rudolph on his elevation to the Office of Scribe for the National Adjutancy. Restoring the Way of Holiness: Celebrating the Ministries of Church Pioneer D.J. Young
October 9-11, 2008
Symposium topics include:

In 2004, Bishop Sedgwick Daniels did a remarkable thing. He invited into his home for Sunday dinner young pastors, seminarians and professors for a talk about how the church -- the Spirit-filled Church -- might organize to make more impact on our world. He listened, he questioned and he shared.
Indeed, he is someone to listen to.
Only 22 years after the Holy Spirit inspired him to form Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God in Christ, that church is not just an inspiration to the community, it is an institution in the community.
Bishop Daniels is not only an anointed preacher, he is a consummate church-statesperson. He has bridged the divide between Church and economy, between Church and politics and between Catholic and Protestant.
Bishop Daniels is well known for his community empowerment and economic development ministries, which are central to his leadership of the Wisconsin First Jurisdiction of COGIC and his church. Among his many accomplishments, Bishop Daniels served as a City of Milwaukee Planning Commissioner , the first Protestant board member of the Catholic Central City Schools, board member of V&J Foods ( America 's largest minority owned restaurant franchise). Holy Redeemer has built an 8-acre complex in Milwaukee with a church, school, family life center, banquet facilities and a community development corporation.
Learn from a minister of the Gospel, who in HOLY BOLDNESS has preached good news to the poor, the brokenhearted, the oppressed, and to governors and presidents, empowering them to change their lives and their community in the power of the Holy Spirit.
